LAGOS, Nigeria, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Two children of a former Nigerian governor were among 15 people who died when a plane carrying their father's remains crashed Thursday in Lagos, officials said.

The casket of the late Gov. Olusegun Agagu was found in the rubble of the plane, which went down shortly after taking off from Murtala Muhammad Airport, PM News in Nigeria reported.

A son and daughter of Agagu died in the crash of the propeller-driven Embraer 120, said Nigerian aviation officials.

Officials said Agagu's son Feyi Agau, was among the five survivors.

The plane was on its way to Ondo state, where the governor was to be buried in his hometown of Iju-Odo, the Nigerian online newspaper Daily Post reported. He died Sept. 13.

Residents of Ondo state had begun gathering at the airport in the capital, Akure, as early as 7 a.m. to greet the former governor's casket.

Among them were Agagu's widow, another of the couple's daughters, and a daughter-in-law who had flown in earlier.
