U.S. forensic experts to aid defense in Pistorius murder trial

PRETORIA, South Africa, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Lawyers for Oscar Pistorius say they have hired U.S. forensic experts to help prepare for the South African Paralympian's murder trial.

Pistorius family spokeswoman Annaliese Burgess said she did not know who the experts were or exactly how they would assist the defense lawyers, the Beeld newspaper reported Tuesday.

She was unable to confirm a report by the South African news service SAPA the forensic experts visited Pistorius' home on Monday.

Pistorius' girlfriend, Reena Steenkamp, was killed in a bathroom of the home on Feb. 14. Pistorius has admitted to shooting her, but says he thought she was a burglar.
