VATICAN, Vatican City, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The Vatican announced Monday it set the date for the canonization of popes John XXII and John Paul II.

"Consistory to vote on the causes of canonization of blesseds John XXII and John Paul II," a statement from the Vatican read.

Pope Francis announced during Monday's midmorning prayers the date for the canonization would be April 27, the Sunday after Easter, the National Catholic Register reported.

Authorities in the Vatican and Rome are beginning preparations for a large number of pilgrims from all over the world expected to attend the ceremony.
