Baghdad car bombings kill at least 27, wound 129

BAGHDAD, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A dozen car-bomb explosions in Baghdad Monday killed at least 27 people and wounded 129, officials said.

An Interior Ministry spokesman said the bombings were reported from nine districts in Iraq's capital city, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

The toll could rise, officials said.

Injured people were taken to medical facilities throughout the city, the spokesman said.

On Sunday, a wave of insurgent attacks across Iraq killed 55 people and wounded 135 others.

Earlier this month, the U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq said nearly 5,000 civilians were killed and 12,000 injured in Iraq from January through August.
