Russian boy steals $500 from grandmother, spends $150 on candy

ARTYOM, Russia, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- A 12-year-old boy told authorities in Russia he stole $500 from his great-grandmother and used $150 of it to buy candy.

The 78-year-old woman, whose name wasn't reported, called police to her apartment in Artyom reporting that pension money she had put away in a hiding spot had gone missing, RIA Novosti reported Sunday.

While investigators were at her apartment, the boy admitted that he had been taking the money from her hiding spot, most recently stealing $150 and using it to buy candy, police said in a statement.

Police didn't file criminal charges against the boy since he was under the age of criminal liability. A commission on underage issue will decide on possible disciplinary measures against the boy.
