Protest held in Moscow against Russian Academy of Sciences reform

MOSCOW, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- More than 100 people gathered in central Moscow Saturday to protest a law reforming the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The law, under which the Academies of Medical and Agricultural Sciences will be absorbed by the RAS, was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday, ITAR-Tass reported.

The Russian government will now set a maximum number of RAS members.

The protest was organized so members of the scientific community could meet with legislators. Vladimir Rodin, a Communist Party member of the Duma, attended the protest.
