Kenyan Parliament Speaker Muturi directs police to tighten security

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The speaker of Kenya's National Assembly ordered police to tighten security at Nairobi's Parliament buildings in the wake of the terrorist attack in the city.

Speaker Justin Muturi's order comes after reports the Parliament buildings were also a terrorist target, Nairobi's Standard Digital News reported Wednesday.

The order was issued to police and to Parliament's sergeant-at-arms to keep "strangers" from the government buildings.

In parliamentary parlance, "strangers" means anyone who accesses the buildings without the speaker's approval, the News said.

Muturi also reopened the Assembly's Media Center, which has been closed since June, and the House Business Committee agreed to accredit journalist who cover parliamentary proceedings.
