OTTAWA, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Two of the six people killed in a bus-train collision near Ottawa were Carleton University students, Canadian officials said.
Connor Boyd, 21, and Kyle Nash, in his 20s, were killed Wednesday when a double-decker city bus collided with a Via Rail passenger train just south of Ottawa, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
Boyd was an English major at Carleton University, while Nash was studying information technology and interactive multimedia and design.
Four other people, including the bus driver, were killed in the crash -- three men and a woman.
All of the victims have been identified and their families have been notified.
Meanwhile, authorities moved the Via Rail train that derailed in the accident back onto the tracks Thursday.
Roads near the scene in Ottawa reopened, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said.
The bus, which had its front end sheared off in the crash, remained in place Thursday as investigators returned to work at the scene.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada said the investigation may take months.
Several witnesses told authorities the bus failed to stop at the ground level rail crossing.
"From what I can tell, the bus driver did not notice that these train track's signal lights were on and the gates were down," George Mech, who was riding on the double-decker bus at the time of the crash, said. "People screamed on the bus shortly before the crash because he was not stopping."
