Female Palestinian security officers training in Russia

RAMALLAH, West Bank, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Four female Palestinian security officers are being trained as paratroopers in Russia, a Palestinian national security spokesman said.

The four women will complete a variety of courses in Russia, including paratrooper training, security forces spokesman Hafith Rifaay told the Ma'an News Agency.

"Four women in their early 20s were chosen for this unprecedented experience in the Arab world, and in Palestine in particular," Rifaay told Ma'an.

"At first we felt a little bit scared, but as we remembered we are here to raise the name of our homeland high, we forgot our fears and started to check on each other until we landed safely," Manar Barahma, one of the female officers training in Russia, told the news agency.

Barahma said she, along with the other officers, joined the Palestinian national security forces more than a year ago.
