KABUL, Afghanistan, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A senior Afghan policewoman was shot and wounded by unknown gunmen Sunday, officials in Helmand province said.
The governor's office said the officer, identified as Negar, was ambushed outside her home in the Lashkargah district by assailants believed to be Islamist militants.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility from the Taliban, Khaama Press said.
The attack was the latest against high-profile women in the Afghan government. Khaama Press said a female lawmaker in Ghanzi province were kidnapped recently and released in a prisoner exchange.
