Tropical Storm Gabrielle downgraded to tropical depression

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Gabrielle was downgraded to a tropical depression Friday and was to bring strong winds and heavy rains to Canada's eastern provinces.

Gabrielle was moving north-northeast at 17 mph and was located about 595 miles away from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Friday morning, the National Hurricane Center in Miami reported.

The storm was expected to dissipate Friday night.

Environment Canada warned that Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island may be hit with winds of up to 44 mph and may receive 4 inches of rain.
