Sept. 11, 2013 at 3:42 PM   |   Comments

BEIJING, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Six farmers died after being trapped in a well in east China's Jiangzi province, government officials said.

The incident began when two farmers went to the well to get water for their crops. When others realized they'd gone missing they went to the well and went down to try to rescue the two men, state-run Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday.

Two of the men died in the well and four others died while emergency workers tried to rescue them.

The cause of death wasn't reported by provincial officials who announced the grim incident.
