AMMAN, Jordan, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Jordan's lower house Tuesday voted to dismiss a lawmaker who fired a gun during a morning session and suspend a colleague who was the target of his ire.
All but two of the 136 attending parliamentary members voted in favor of ousting Talal Sharif and suspending Qusai Dmeisi for a year, The Jordan Times reported.
The Israeli media network Arutz Sheva said the Albawaba Middle Eastern news site reported Sharif had an AK-47, while al-Jazeera reported it as an assault rifle.
Arutz Sheva said no one was wounded in the incident and it wasn't clear what Sharif's beef with Dmeisi was.
Arutz Sheva said one account of the incident had the two lawmakers getting into a dispute during a closed budgetary session with Sharif leaving to retrieve his firearm and the gun going off when security guards moved to take it away from him. In that version, one bullet hit the wall of the Parliament hall.
Al-Jazeera said another account of events had Sharif firing at least three shots when another lawmaker, Mariam al-Lozi, tried to stop him from using his weapon and directed it at the ceiling.
Arutz Sheva said Dmeisi tried to attack another member of Parliament, Yihya Saud, last week for accusations Saud allegedly made against Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour.
