BERLIN, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A Berlin man who identifies as a male but has a female reproductive system, has become the first male in Germany to give birth, government records indicated.
The records indicated the new father, who is transgender, is registered as a man, Germany's version of The Local reported Monday.

He reportedly became pregnant by using donor sperm, the Bild newspaper reported.
Hospitals are required to record the name of the mother in their records when a child is born. The child does not have a mother officially, The Local said.
Transgenders can give birth to children because even when women undergo hormone therapy to become more physically masculine, they can retain female reproductive organs.
