Man pleads guilty to killing 3 armored car guards, wounding a 4th

EDMONTON, Alberta, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- An armored car company employee Monday pleaded guilty to killing three co-workers and wounding a fourth during a 2012 robbery in Edmonton, Alberta.

Travis Baumgartner, 22, admitted in court Monday he fatally shot his fellow G4S security guards Michelle Shegelski, 26, Eddie Rejano, 39, and Brian Ilesic, 35, and wounded Matthew Schuman during the armored car robbery at HUB Mall at the University of Alberta in which he made off with $330,000, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Baumgartner, who was apprehended at a U.S. border crossing in British Columbia days after the June 2012 holdup, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

The Edmonton Journal said Baumgartner, wearing a dark suit, looked pale and tired during the court proceedings in which he answered "I do" when asked if he understood the ramifications of his guilty plea.

"I did it all. I killed those people and robbed their truck," Baumgartner was quoted as saying in his confession to police that was read in open court.
