KABUL, Afghanistan, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- At least 24 Taliban militants were killed in Afghanistan's northeastern Badakhshan province during a military operation, military officials said.

Operation "Hindukush," which is aimed at clearing militants from the area, was carried out by Afghan special forces in Badakhshan's Wardoj district, Khaama Press reported Sunday.

Wardoj district chief Dawlat Mohammad Khawar said at least six villages in the area have been cleared of militants.

Taliban militants have not yet commented on the report.
