Palestinian prisoners to be released regardless of peace talk progress

RAMALLAH, West Bank, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A third group of Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli prisons regardless of the progress made in peace negotiations, Palestinian officials said.

The prisoners are scheduled to be released Oct. 29 amid ongoing negotiations between the two sides seeking to reach a peace accord to end decades of violence in the Middle East, Ynewnews said Saturday.

Israel agreed to release about 100 prisoners as a precondition for negotiations, many of whom had served long sentences for carrying out attacks that claimed Israeli lives.

The fourth and final prisoner release is scheduled for March 28.
