CAIRO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was charged with a new offense Saturday, that of "insulting the judicial authority," officials said.
Prosecutors said Morsi's detention would be extended four days while they investigated the charge, Ahram Online reported.
Morsi has been held incommunicado since the military forced him from office July 3.
He received an initial 15-day detention July 26 as prosecutors investigated charges of espionage and jailbreak.
Morsi and dozens of fellow Muslim Brotherhood members escaped from prison during the 2011 revolution.
During his one year in office, Morsi was regularly in conflict with the judiciary. In September 2012, he fired the prosecutor general and made the Shura Council and the Constituent Assembly immune from being dissolved by the courts.
