Arsonist sentenced to death in China for factory fire that killed 14

GUANGZHOU, China, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A Guangdong Province, China, court issued a death sentence Friday to a man whose 2012 act of arson in a clothing factory killed 14 people.

Liu Shuangyun, 27, was employed at the underwear factory in Shantou, China, and started the December fire as revenge for having his wages reduced by his supervisor, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

Xinhua said 30 workers were in the facility at the time of the fire, and that the fire loss was valued at 2.28 million yuan ($373,000).
