The man in his early 20s, whose name wasn't reported, admitted to police and his lawyer he was responsible for the woman's death.
"He has admitted to the police and me that he has caused this woman's death. Furthermore, he has also stated that he would consent to any remand," his lawyer, Reidar Andresen, told NRK radio. "This is a tragic case for all involved, and my job is now to protect the client."
Aarseth's body was found Saturday on a steep slope covered in dense vegetation in Alesund. Aarseth had sustained injuries and appeared to die after a violent struggle, The Local.No reported.
The man who confessed to killing Aarseth was arrested Wednesday after police matched his DNA with samples taken from the woman's body.
TheLocal.No reported the man "liked" a memorial page for Aarseth on Facebook and also shared an article on the social network titled "Classmates worried about Anja Weloy Aarseth (21)."
