JERUSALEM, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Israel's population has grown by 1.8 percent in the past year to more than 8 million citizens, officials said.
On the eve of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, Monday, Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics released its annual population report, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The CBS found that Israel's population increased by 142,000 people. Most new immigrants came from Canada and the United States.
The CBS also said that Israel's population is 75 percent Jewish, or about 6 million people, and 21 percent Arab, 1.6 million people.
