"Further investigations into these crimes are still under way," the Ministry of Public Security said in a statement Sunday.
During the crackdown, authorities also destroyed 11 drug-making plants and confiscated 7.93 tonnes (8.75 tons) of precursor chemicals, Xinhua News Agency reported. It was not clear how long the crackdown operation lasted.
The ministry said the arrests were in various provinces, with suspects involved in highly covert criminal methods and tight-knit organizations that had "seriously harmed Internet security and social order."
"The Internet has been used as a 'schoolroom' for drug crimes and a market for drug deals by criminals in recent years," the ministry said in its statement.
