Baghdad suffered the highest toll in violence and terror attacks, CNN reported.
Iraq's August death toll was lower than July, which was the deadliest month in Iraq since 2007. Some1,057 Iraqis were killed and 2,326 were wounded in terror attacks and other violence in July.
Still, the U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq said in a statement: "The impact of violence on civilians remains disturbingly high."
Meanwhile, Iraqi security forces Sunday carried out an operation on an Iranian opposition camp in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala, killing 19 suspected militants and wounding about 30 others, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The camp belonged to the People's Mujahideen Organization of Iran, which is a self-claimed Marxist and Islamic movement founded in 1965, Xinhua said.
