HONG KONG, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- About three dozen people were injured Friday as two airline flights from Thailand encountered turbulence shortly before landing in Hong Kong, officials say.
Thirty passengers were hurt when Thai International Airway flight 600 hit an atmospheric disturbance while descending to Hong Kong International Airport, the South China Morning Post reported. One passenger injured his head and neck when he was thrown out of his seat and his head hit the overhead luggage compartment.
The turbulence lasted about 5 seconds.
Passengers who had not fastened their seat belts were among those injured, the Thailand National News reported.
One crew member suffered a broken collarbone.
Three passengers and three crew members on Hong Kong Airlines flight 765 from Phuket were injured when their aircraft also encountered heavy turbulence, the Post reported.
The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Both flights were able to land safely.
