Local government officials told Khaama Press a suicide bomber driving a vehicle set off an explosion in front of the base and a gunfight with military personnel began after other militants tried to enter the base in Tagab district.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying its members had inflicted heavy casualties on the Afghan soldiers.
