Afghan army, police kill 15 Taliban militants, injure dozens more

LASHKAR GAR, Afghanistan, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The Afghan army and local police in the Helmand province killed at least 15 Taliban militants during joint military operations, government officials said.

Dozens of other Taliban militants were injured but Afghan security forces were unscathed, the Khaama Press reported.

Security fores also seized at least 25 improvised explosive devices.

The forces launched the operation to clear militants from the area amid growing concern from residents about the growth of militant activities, officials said.

The operations were launched in Nad-e-Ali, Nawa and Marjah districts, Khaama Press reported.
