Mohammad and Aftab Asghar were both arrested after DNA evidence in a rape case implicated them but during a court appearance prosecutors asked a judge for more time to investigate the case. Prosecutors said they're trying to determine whether other evidence can exonerate one of the brothers by placing him elsewhere while the attack happened, The Mirror reported.
"There is further work due and there is an indication which would tend to support that one was not at the location," prosecutor Sandra Beck said. "It may mean that only one of the defendants faces trial."
The two men were expected to enter a plea during the hearing but did not in light of the prosecution's request. A judge has granted them bail while the investigation continues.
