Czech Chamber of Deputies votes to dissolve

Aug. 20, 2013 at 3:43 PM

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The Czech Republic's Chamber of Deputies approved a resolution Tuesday calling for its own dissolution, a step toward a likely October general election.

The proposal was supported by a vote of 140 to 7, by lawmakers from all major parties. It was the first time the chamber called for self-dissolution since a relevant constitutional amendment took effect four years ago, the Czech news agency CTK reported.

The chamber will be dissolved by President Milos Zeman, who will order a new election.
