MUMBAI, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Five sailors whose bodies were recovered from an Indian submarine that sank after a series of explosions died from severe burns and drowning, officials say

The bodies of 13 other crew members believed to have been aboard the INS Sindhurakshak have yet to be recovered, Press Trust of India reported Saturday.

An unnamed official said the remains were so badly burned DNA samples and dental records will be used to identify them.

Autopsies show the bodies had not been injured by shrapnel from the explosion, the official said.

The vessel, which sank early Wednesday, remains partially submerged at its dock in Mumbai.
