BEIJING, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Rain-triggered floods in northeast China have killed 11 people and left three others missing, officials said.
The floods, which have been ongoing since Aug. 10, have destroyed 1.2 million acres in Heilongjiang province and caused an estimated $1.16 billion worth of damage, Xinhua reported.
About 2 million people have been affected by the floods, a statement released Friday by the civil affairs department said.
Meanwhile, the central Chinese government on Friday earmarked $84 million in subsidies for flood victims and people affected by droughts in China's south and northwest provinces, Xinhua reported.
A drought affecting China's southern regions since July has left almost 13 million people without access to drinking water, Ministry of Civil Affairs said Thursday. About 2.2 million acres of land have been affected by the drought, causing a about $6.5 billion in economic losses.
