Antonov also told reporters in Moscow he does not believe the dispute between the United States and Russia over fugitive former CIA contractor Edward Snowden has affected the discussions, RIA Novosti reported. President Obama canceled a planned summit meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin after Russia gave Snowden temporary asylum, but a meeting Friday between Secretary of State John Kerry, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu went ahead.
Antonov said the talks have not produced any tangible results.
"We have been discussing the missile defense issue for the past 10 days," he said.
"However, no solution for this problem is yet in sight."
Russia has insisted it needs guarantees it is not a target of the missile defense system in Eastern Europe. U.S. and NATO officials say its goal is to keep North Korea and Iran from targeting Europe.
