Tung Shen Wu, also known as David Wu, 62, is not qualified to practice dentistry, the College of Surgeons of British Columbia announced.
The College staged a raid on the illegal clinic in a bedroom of his home, and videotape obtained by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. showed dirty and disorganized conditions, dusty shelves and dental supplies and no evidence of sterilized water, CBC News said Friday.
Wu's patients, largely Chinese-Canadians, may have been exposed to HIV and hepatitis B or C, and were urged Wednesday to be tested for blood-borne viruses.
Wu received a court injunction 10 years ago to halt his practice. He told authorities he was leaving the country, but his new clinic was discovered in May. It is believed Wu received dental training in some other jurisdiction but does not meet British Columbia's standards and requirements, CBC News said.
David Reid, spokesman for Burnaby's Royal Canadian Mounted Police office, said the RCMP would investigate if the college decided any criminal actions occurred.
CBC News reported a retired dentist in Burnaby with the same name, now a Realtor, seeks to distance himself from the college's investigation.
"Although we have the same name, David Wu, we are completely different people. I have nothing to do with him," said Dr. David Hon Wei Wu.
