200 militants killed in eastern Afghanistan, Afghan Army reports

KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Military officials reported Friday approximately 200 militants, mostly foreigners, were killed during operations in Afghanistan's eastern Logar province.

Defense ministry spokesman Gen. Zahir Azimi said the military operation was conducted solely by Afghan security forces, adding around 20 militants were detained during the operation and 11 members of the Afghan army were killed by improvised explosive devices.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the report, the Afghan online news site Khaama Press said.
