Moderate 5.1 earthquake shakes Athens

ATHENS, Greece, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale northwest of Athens briefly shook the Greek capital Wednesday morning, officials said.

The National Geodynamic Institute said the quake's epicenter was near Amfikleia in the Fthiotida region.

The United States Geological Survey said the quake occurred at approximately 9 a.m. local time.

The European-Mediterranean Seimological Center said the quake's magnitude was 5.1 on the Richter scale, the Ekathimerini reported.

The quake occurred 5.5 miles northeast of Amfikleia, following a smaller tremor a few minutes earlier at the same place.

No injuries or damage were reported, Ekathimerini said.
