NAPLES, Italy, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- The death of a teenage girl raised the number of victims of a southern Italian bus crash to 39, officials in Italy said Tuesday.

Simona Del Giudice, 16, was taken to a Naples hospital July 28 after the bus she was riding in slammed into a guardrail and fell 328 feet, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

The bus was carrying a group of friends returning from a weekend excursion when the accident occurred.

Italian officials are investigating the owner of the bus company, his brother and the bus driver who died in the crash.
