Results of the Levada Center survey released Wednesday indicated 51 percent of respondents either have a positive attitude about Snowden's leaking activities and 36 percent said they were "rather positive" about it.
The poll indicated 14 percent said they were "rather negative" about Snowden's activities and 3 percent totally disapproved of his actions.
Thirty-two percent of respondents said they hadn't made up their minds.
Russian officials granted temporary asylum to Snowden Thursday.
Asked before the asylum was granted, 13 percent of respondents said it should be, 30 percent said "probably," 19 percent said "probably not" and 10 percent were against it.
Results are based on interviews with 1,601 adults in 130 communities across 45 Russian regions conducted July 18-22. The margin of error was 3.4 percent.
