1,200 illegal Vietnamese immigrants arrested in Russia

MOSCOW, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Police in Russia detained 1,200 Vietnamese migrants illegally living in Moscow, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

"Today police officers detained 1,200 citizens of Vietnam who stayed in Russia illegally at a storage site in the city's east," the statement, released Wednesday, read.

As part of the raid, police discovered 20 textile production shops at the storage site, RIA Novosti reported.

Police also arrested eight people suspected of organizing the illegal workplaces. The alleged organizers are from Iraq, Syria, Vietnam and Azerbaijan, and four are Russian, RIA Novosti said.
