CAIRO, July 31 (UPI) -- European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton did not propose any reconciliation plan while in Cairo, Egypt's foreign minister said Wednesday.
Interim Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy said Ashton met with various groups and parties during her two-day visit so she could assess the situation, Ahram Online reported.
Ashton, along with a delegation from the African Union, also met deposed President Mohamed Morsi to explain their region's perspectives about what is happening in Egypt, Fahmy said.
He denied claims the visits were attempts to interfere in Egyptian domestic affairs.
Fahmy said similar meetings with his Sudanese and Ethiopian counterparts are planned after the end of Ramadan.
