Video: Afghan soldier who killed ISAF soldier, hurt six, a 'champion'

KABUL, Afghanistan, July 30 (UPI) -- A rogue Afghan army soldier who killed a Slovakian soldier and injured six others has been praised as a "champion" in a Taliban video, a report said.

A Taliban group in Afghanistan recently released the video saluting Lambar Khan, Khaama Press reported Tuesday.

Khan, who appears in the 37-minute video, is repeatedly referred to as a "champion."

In what the video termed "a courageous attack on foreign invaders due to his Islamic and Afghan fervor," Lambar Khan killed a Slovakian member of the International Security Assistance Force and wounded six others at Kandahar air base in early July.

In contrast with the casualties reported by ISAF, the video said Khan killed five coalition soldiers "on the spot" and wounded two.

Khan was captured but escaped from jail five days later with the assistance of another Afghan soldier, the video said.

That soldier, identified as Lt. Ihsanullah, also appears in the video.

In the video, Khan said he joined the Afghan army eight months ago with the intention of killing coalition soldiers.
