LONDON, July 30 (UPI) -- People who live in the United Kingdom are slightly happier this year than they were last year, a survey indicates.
The Office of National Statistics said its annual well-being survey found the percentage of citizens rating their life satisfaction as seven or above on a scale of 10 rose from 75.9 percent last year to 77 percent this year, the BBC reported Tuesday.
Statisticians felt the Olympics and Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebration may have "influenced people's assessment of their ... well-being."
Married couples or those in civil partnerships rated their life satisfaction higher than those merely cohabiting.
Divorcees or separated people rated their life satisfaction lowest, an average of 6.8 out of 10.
Widowed or single people averaged 7.3 out of 10.
Despite improvements in the labor market, the survey found little change in average life satisfaction ratings for the unemployed.
The Office of National Statistics did not release any information on when the survey was conducted, how many people were surveyed or what the margin of error was.
