Reports: Suspected drone strike kills seven in Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, July 28 (UPI) -- At least seven people died in a suspected U.S. drone strike Sunday in the Shawal area of North Waziristan, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

Speaking to Dawn newspaper, the officials said three other people were injured the strike in which two missiles were fired at a compound in Shinkai Narai village in the tribal region. The compound was destroyed, they said.

Geo News, quoting tribal sources, said the strike killed eight people in the compound, suspected to be holding militants. The report said four of those killed may have been foreign fighters. Shawal is near the border with Afghanistan.

The Dawn report, quoting the intelligence officials, said four of those killed in the strike were of Arab origin. They also told the newspaper there was a possibility a high profile figure was killed in the attack.

Dawn said North Waziristan is home to a mix of Pakistani, Afghan and al-Qaida-linked foreign militants.
