Woman attacked by feral cats in eastern France

BELFORT, France, July 27 (UPI) -- The mother of a woman injured in a cat attack in eastern France says the experience was a "living nightmare."

The 31-year-old victim was attacked July 21 as she walked her poodle in a wooded area in Belfort, The Guardian Express reported Saturday.

Her mother said the attack was so fierce she was knocked down and the cats cut into an artery.

"My daughter thought it was a living nightmare," Josette Galliot said. "She's still traumatized and is bordering on depression."

Valerie Dramard, a veterinarian in the area, said there are too many feral cats around Belfort.

"Cats are not new zombies of the apocalypse," she said. "They are just very territorial and unfriendly with unknown species."

The woman was given a rabies shot and treated for her injuries, while the poodle needed veterinary care.
