NEW DELHI, July 20 (UPI) -- An Indian court Saturday sentenced six men to life in prison for the gang rape of a Swiss tourist in March.
The men, ages 22-30, were found guilty of attacking the 39-year-old woman and her husband while they were camping in a wooded area in central Madhya Pradesh state, the TNN reported.
"All the accused have been convicted and we are satisfied with the judgment. We had made strong arguments in the court" prosecutor Rajendra Tiwari said after the men were sentenced.
Judge Jitendra Kumar Sharma also ordered the men to each pay a $168.55 fine.
Several months after Swiss tourist was gang raped, a 23-year-old Indian woman died after being gang raped on a bus in New Delhi. The incident sparking protests worldwide and led to stricter punishments for rapists, including the death penalty, the BBC reported.
