CANBERRA, Australia, July 16 (UPI) -- The bodies of four people have been found after a boat carrying about 150 asylum seekers capsized off Christmas Island, Australian border police said Tuesday.

Two naval ships rescued some 144 passengers on the boat, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The boat was being escorted to Christmas Island by the naval ships when it capsized, Australian Border Protections and Customs said in a statement.

A search for other survivors has been suspended.
