Dad arrested in UAE for torturing his five daughters

AJMAN, United Arab Emirates, July 14 (UPI) -- A Jordanian man was arrested along with two of his sisters in the United Arab Emirates for allegedly torturing his five daughters, police said.

The 35-year-old father, identified as M.Sh., and his sisters, identified as L.Sh. and H.Sh., were arrested 20 days ago in the Emirate of Ajman for the torture of his five daughters, Gulf News reported Saturday.

Police said the man and his sisters beat M.Sh.'s daughter with ropes and sticks and pierced their skin with needles, as well as made them kneel naked and burned their bodies with lit cigarettes.

The alleged abuse came to light after the girls' mother, identified as I.M., traveled to the UAE from Jordan after receiving text messages from her daughters that said their father and his sisters were torturing them day and night.

I.M. and M.Sh. were divorced four months ago after being married for 18 years, I.M. told Gulf News.

"After we got married we came to live here [in the UAE] and all my daughters were born here," she said. "My youngest daughter is 10 and my other daughters are 11,14,15 and 16."

After she and her husband divorced, I.M. said, she and her daughters returned to Jordan, but she was unable to support the girls, so she sent them back to the UAE to live with their father, and shortly thereafter he began abusing them.

When I.M. returned to the UAE after receiving the text messages from her daughters, she said she met with her daughters when their father was at work.

"I saw my daughters burnt with cigarette butts, and there were bruises and scars on their body. So I went back to the public prosecutor who sent them for a medical check and ordered the arrest of their father and his sisters," the mother said.

"We do not want to see our father again. He beat us severely. He and his sisters used to force us to stay naked and they used to search our bodies including our private parts to find if we had a SIM card which we were using to communicate with our mother," one of the I.M.'s daughters said.
