KUNMING, China, July 14 (UPI) -- A bus crash in southwestern China on Sunday killed eight people and injured 19 others, officials said.
The accident happened in the Dai autonomous prefecture of Xishuangbanna at about 12:40 p.m., Xinhua reported.

An initial investigation into the incident found that the bus lost traction due to heavy rain, careened off the road and into a valley, local authorities said.
Eight people were confirmed dead at the scene, while 19 others were hospitalized for injuries. The condition of those injured was not known.
