CAIRO, July 13 (UPI) -- A Palestinian man was arrested in Egypt's Sinai peninsula for allegedly being involved in the bombing of a gas pipeline in Sinai last week, officials said.
Mohamed Abu Hashem, 30, was arrested Friday and charged in the bombing, the Palestinian Ma'an News Agency reported.
Several suspects detonated two bombs along the pipeline, which supplies natural gas to Jordan, the news report said.
A Jordanian official told the state-run Petra news agency the blasts disrupted gas supplies to his country, which received about 80 percent of its energy from Egypt.
"The gas supplies to Jordan stopped due to the attack," the official said. "The Egyptian authorities have informed us that they are currently evaluating the situation and the damage."
Militants attacked several pipelines in Sinai in 2011, disrupting gas supplies to Jordan and Israel, which receives about 40 percent of its natural gas from Egypt.
