KABUL, Afghanistan, July 13 (UPI) -- Afghan police said 12 Taliban fighters were killed in an attack on security checkpoints in Kandahar province.

The clashes took place near the Pakistan border in Kandahar's Afghanistan district and ended with the Taliban retreating back into Pakistan.

Gen. Abdul Razaq, commander of the border police in the 3rd zone, told Khaama Press a rapid-response team responded to the attack and drove the raiders away without sustaining any casualties.
