HAMILTON, Ontario, July 10 (UPI) -- Police in Canada said they cited a 68-year-old woman for allowing her 11-year-old neighbor drive her around to do errands.
Constable Debbie McGreal-Dinning, the media relations officer for Hamilton (Ontario) Police Service, said police stopped the pair Monday night because they identified the driver as "a very young-looking" male.
The woman said she taught her young neighbor to drive so he could help her with "an array of errands," police said.
"They didn't pull the car over because of the way the vehicle was operating, they just observed the fact that the driver looked young," McGreal-Dinning said.
The boy was returned to his parents and the woman was cited for permitting an unlicensed person to drive a motor vehicle and for having no insurance, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Tuesday.
In Ontario, one must be at least 16 years old to apply for a driver's license.
