JAKARTA, July 8 (UPI) -- Five men trapped for days by a streak of angry tigers in Indonesia were rescued Monday, officials said.
The ordeal began Thursday in a remote, protected area of Indonesia's Mount Leuser National Park as the group of six men searched for rare agar wood, The Independent, Britain, reported.
The men set a trap to catch deer for food, but accidentally caught a Sumatran tiger cub instead. This angered the mother and five other tigers.
The men then climbed nearby trees for safety.
One man died when a tree branch broke and he fell to the ground, where he was mauled by the tigers, police said.
The other men survived on rain water as the tigers circled below. They made calls for help via text messages to nearby villagers.
Rescuers located the men after a three-day search. Animal tamers drove off the tigers and the men climbed down.
"I received a report from rescuers that they have just evacuated the men. They are all in weak condition," 1st Lt. Surya Purba said.
